PAC Supports S.2935B (Parker) MEMORANDUM OF SUPPORT FOR THE JUST ENERGY TRANSITION ACT (S.2935B)

An Act enacting the “just energy transition act”

The New York State Laborers’ Political Action Committee (NYS Laborers’ PAC) is an organization representing over 40,000 union members and 24 local unions. The NYS Laborers’ PAC aggressively advocates for wage and safety standards for our members, raising the floor for both union and nonunion construction workers.

The New York State Laborers’ PAC , legislation directing the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to develop a blueprint for the replacement and redevelopment of fossil fuel facilities by the year 2030. Additionally, the legislation requires the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to establish policies and procedures to fully implement the plan outlined by NYSERDA. This proposal will be critical to reaching the ambitious goals of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), while also providing decisive action on the recommendations of the Climate Action Council’s scoping plan. The phase-out and redevelopment of fossil fuel facilities is critical to realizing a zero-emissions future and the creation of countless career-track jobs in the renewable energy sector. S2935B is a necessary step in establishing a greener, more resilient future for New York State.

For the aforementioned reasons, the New York State Laborers’ PAC STRONGLY SUPPORTS S2935B, legislation that will create jobs and assist the state in realizing the goals of the CLCPA. Should you have further questions, please contact Amanda Jensen, amanda.nyslecet@gmail.com.
