A growing and unprecedented coalition of New Yorkers are coming together to support the Just Energy Transition Act (JETA). This groundbreaking bill is smart energy policy that will help repurpose our existing fossil fuel infrastructure to support labor and communities as New York transitions to a clean energy future.
JETA ensures New York State meets the ambitious goals of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) by directing New York’s climate, energy, and environmental agencies and authorities to guide the retirement and redevelopment of New York’s oldest and most-polluting fossil fuel facilities with clean sources of renewable energy, such as wind and solar as well as battery storage technology and electricity transmission and distribution systems to support renewable energy.
This smart legislation is uniting New Yorkers to support a just transition together. A coalition of environmental, business, labor, environmental justice, and community organizations have signed on to support JETA, and now we need YOU to join your friends and neighbors and let New York State lawmakers know they should pass this legislation.

JETA’s repurposing of existing infrastructure unites several critical policy goals, including: Protect Ratepayers and Reduce Costs: Repurposing infrastructure a competitive bidding process which offers a highly cost-effective clean energy alternative to new energy projects from the ground up.
Environmental Justice: As a landmark environmental justice initiative, the enactment of JETA would remediate air pollution in neighborhoods that have historically borne the brunt of downstate fossil fuel power generation.
Just Transition for Union Labor: Investing in a pipeline of existing and new workforce to power homegrown clean energy facilities.
Clean Energy: Creating new local sources of clean renewable energy.
Reliability: Reducing New York’s reliance on fossil fuels while ensuring reliability of keeping the lights on at the same time of reducing emissions and local air pollution for New Yorkers.
